I still think IA should insist on requiring uploaders to provide a detailed description of each item, with length, colour (or not), language, country of origin, origin of the film, who appears in them, IMDB links (if any)etc...Not to mention valid e-mail addresses and registration

Requiring more info would make it harder to just dump files here...I think those who upload films of value (see Prelinger, AV Geeks and more) are meticulous enough to provide this info where it exists....If for no other reason, with more info these files should be categorized properly...(eg foreign language films should be under foreign language films and could be subdivided by language)

Any ideas out there to improve the listings of content?

>>Any ideas out there to improve the listings of content?<<

Mandate:
Registered account for uploaders, full technical and content descriptions
------------------------------
Forbid:
Specific filetypes, such as RAR, ZIP, Real Media, MP3, and others that are not video
------------------------------
In the absence of the attentive archive staff that used to police content in the Open Source section, at least weed content every week or so
------------------------------
Move inflammatory anti-west content into its own section, or transfer it to one of the political video sections. Censorship is a bad thing, but polluting the Open Source section with a preponderance of videos featuring a single topic is also a bad thing. Confining jee-hotrodder videos into their own walled-off, clearly-marked area would increase the usefullness and friendliness of the archive. Animated Brickfilms and Machinima started crowding Open Source Videos, so they were given a discrete place here. There were fewer brickfilms than there are videos of angry bearded turban mumbo-jumble. Why not move them away from the general population?

Hi,

We do actually have a section for vids that are (or appear to be) about the iraq war at http://www.archive.org/details/iraq_war
and an even more specific collection for non-english vids at http://www.archive.org/details/iraq_middleeast

The main problem is that we're getting about 24,000 uploads every month, and we don't have anywhere near the manpower to go through them all individually and sift things into other collections.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to help a few hours a week or something, please do let me know. Help would be awesome!

Thanks,

Alexis

As long as I can dress casual. I was spending at least that much time complaining about it. Let me know what all is involved and I'd be more than happy to help out with some of the clutter a few hours a week, no problem.

Yeah, because hiring a xenophobic nationalist copyright extremist is the best thing that could happen to TIA. Hire Telephone Dumpling, get lockstep marching lessons for free.

They are not "hiring" anyone it's all volunteer work, which may not make sense to a socialist, politically correct, constitution shredding, welfare state supporter like yourself. Go to venezuela and start a radio station. Unreal, I am the bad guy because I say something about terrrorists and intellectual property thieves.... that indicates a lot about you, thanks for sharing.

As for Xenophobia, this is the best one out of the 3 Xenphobe CD's on here:

"Copyright extremist"? That's a good one. You realize that stuff is illegal? If you need to see it you can always go to Google.

Thanks man, it amazes me the reactions I get on here. I honestly cannot understand what is influencing the people to take such illogical and unrealistic jumps from reason. I think congress came up with copyright law, not me. And I am sure these people are looking back through history to see if my great great great great grandpa started the crusades or something retarded as well. Whatever. I had a muslim friend who lost friends at the WTC while we were at work and some woman said something nasty to him about it and he chewed her out. I talked the CEO out of firing him because I monitored the call and the fact that he lost old friends in those buildings, so I don't want to hear any islamophobic acusations either. Get lives. Counter the message of these thugs with anything possible. Time will tell in this one. Insulting me is a sign of feelings of inadequacy or self loathing.
